Step 2: Starting your Savings
If you are living paycheck to paycheck like I used to be you know what a struggle it is trying to save any money. Let me encourage you to do this step first. If you can save 500.00 or even 1000.00 dollars in a savings account, you will be less likely to use your credit cards in an emergency situation, or even an everyday situation like buying food. Don’t get discouraged if you need to use your funds because you may have underestimated bills. To me that is a normal process of learning called trial and error. If you never make the mistake, you won’t learn from the situation you’re presented. However those who continue to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different result are called insane. Let’s learn from our mistakes and grow.

This process should take anywhere from one month, up to six months. This is not a fast process and it will take time to get you where you need to be. Those of you who already have this in your savings have one step completed. If you do not have the 500.00 to 1000.00 dollars saved up, work as hard as you can to get your desired funds in place.
This process of saving money is going to be especially hard for those who make very little. For those who make below 40,000.00 dollars a year you should consider starting with the $500.00 dollars, and if you can do more continue to $1,000.00 dollars.

I used to struggle a lot with keeping money in our emergency savings account. For example we would have 200 in there, then something would come up, we’d transfer it back to our main checking account, and repeat that process while we were still working on the budget process. Most of the time the problem was I would get a larger electric or water bill than I was expecting, and would have to transfer funds from my savings account back into my main checking account to cover the extra money I miscalculated. After a while we started to stop leaning on the credit cards, and to stop using our emergency funds to pay for things. This can and will happen for you too if you have the ability be patient and learn from your mistakes and what I’ve written in this blog.
